Hockey Game Star Wars Troop!

We spent the night at my grandparents friday night to cut an hour off our drive time saturday morning, that was super nice.
So Saturday morning we got on up and headed to Nashville. We stopped by the costume store up there and picked up a different kind of bald cap than the kind I’d gotten, it was supposed to be better. We had lunch and checked into our hotel, and I started getting the costume on at 1:30. We could be at the arena as early as 3:30 – 5 was cut off time and we couldn’t get in after that. I figured that would be plenty of time and was aiming for 3:30 – of course I was completely wrong.

Chase was still finishing stuff as I started painted myself – he was weathering the boots with an orangey-red (which ended up not really showing up) and doing the brighter colours on the “apron” piece of the belt. I ended up using ben nye’s “Rust” with a layer of “cranberry” over it. I got my makeup done as far as I could and then Chase came in and painted my back for me. I used what was supposed to be the nicer baldcap… but it had rips all over it, straight out of the package… we tried to make it work to no avail. I threw it away LOL and went back to the cheaper one. I wish the first one had worked because it blended a whole lot better. Oh well.

We finished getting me ready and of course by then it was like 4:30. I wrapped up in my dad’s Qui-Gon cloak and we went to arena (luckily it was just down the road) but the door we were supposed to go in was apparently already locked or something, because we called and were told by our garrison CO to go in through the front door. Well of course the guard at the door had no idea we were supposed to be there and wouldn’t let us in and walked back and forth to some other station at a snail’s pace to find out where we were supposed to go, all the time the gathering crowd was staring at me and asking questions LOL He FINALLY let us in and we rushed on in to find out what was going on, where we were supposed to be/etc.

The whole thing was pretty fun, LOTS of people excited to see Star Wars characters… got lots of pics taken and guess what – I *STILL* got called Princess Leia. LMAO. Girl+Star Wars characters = Princess Leia, that’s always the way it is. It was really fun to hear the little kids yell for me and know who I was.

Let’s see, they lowered in one of members as Boba Fett from the rafters along with the mascot in a jedi robe – but with little fanfare because apparently they were running late. Vader rode the zamboni at one point with a couple of troopers tossing t-shirts, and they had a lot of the troopers in the stands early on and showed them on the jumbotron. They did show a little bit of the promos we recorded last month (They showed me as Princess Leia getting my ticket, and then Chase dressed as the opposing team’s fan getting escorted out by troopers, it was funny.)

They kinda had no idea what to do with us when we were there to do the promo videos, and that vibe was still there for the game. It was kinda like “oh cool! ok… um, go stand in the lobby.” Most of the fans had no idea why we were even there, and had no idea it was “sci-fi night” – a lot of the stuff the staff talked about doing last month completely disappeared. Ah well.

Chase wore Vader for only a little while before changing to take pics. We did get some nice professional pics I need to scan.

Here’s a group pic taken by Derek:

I lost 3 buckles off my boots by the end of the night, AND my belt box šŸ™ Chase said they weren’t hard to make and would be easy to replace.
The headpiece wasn’t bad to wear at all, it was really lightweight. Here’s my Ahsoka page with construction stuff, so as not to repeat myself.

I’m 99% sure I will not be taking this to megacon, simply because I don’t think the headpiece would survive being shipped. I’d like to make a mold of it and cast it in something more durable, who knows.

Anyway, here’s all of the pics Chase has sent me so far — they should be at the end of that gallery.

And so I’m pretty much done for the year. I did go through my pattern box (which is STILL at my parents, I need to bring it home, but gotta make room for it first!) and pulled out a pattern for the little waist cincher part for Silk Spectre one. I think I’ve got some fabric that will do, going to take stock of that this weekend and work on it leisurely over the next couple of weeks. šŸ™‚

Wait a minute. Did I just see Hockey Cheerleaders? WTF?

Besides that weirdness, you look amazing and I’ve never seen an event like that. Don’t worry about the Leia thing. I’m called Supergirl all the time and I don’t even own a Supergirl costume. I’ve also been called Ms. Marvel and Catwoman – also not in my wardrobe. The worst was when a mother insisted on calling me SuperMAN to her toddler. I even tried correcting her and SuperGIRL would be fine but she argued with me that her child didn’t know the difference. Um, what? That’s one dumb kid if he can’t see boobs in a Power Girl outfit.

I love the Ahsoka! I’d love to do this one but that darn head piece is stopping me. I’m no good at props lol
